What’s an FMTY? (And what are TMTY and FYTM?)

I wrote a full post  breaking this down ,but in short: an FMTY (Fly Me To You) is a travel date where you fly your favorite companion to meet you. That could mean inviting her to your hometown, meeting her in a city a few hours’ train ride away for a convention, flying her across the world to check off a bucket list destination together — or even booking her to join you during a business trip to keep you company and add warmth to your off-hours.

If she’s not already based in or touring the city you want to meet in, it’s an FMTY.

  • TMTY = Train Me To You (same idea, but by train)

  • DMTY = Drive Me To You (same idea, but she drives herself to you, this will be somewhere more nearby to her)

  • FYTM = Fly Yourself To Me (you travel to her)

    [Read my full breakdown here.]

Why book a FMTY instead of seeing someone local?

There are so many reasons to choose a fly-me-to-you experience:

  • You’ve found someone you can’t stop thinking about and want to celebrate a special occasion

  • You have a long-standing connection with a favorite companion who has since relocated

  • You want extra discretion while traveling for business

  • You want to make a solo vacation or bucket-list trip feel more effortless and enjoyable

  • You’re traveling for work and want to make the most of your evenings or free time with elegant companionship

I dive deeper into this in Pros and Cons of FMTY blog post!

What kinds of dates work well for FMTY? Can I book one anywhere?

As long as your companion is open to the destination, a FMTY can take place almost anywhere — whether you’re therefor business, adventure, or something intimate and cozy.

Four fantastic options for FMTY are:

  • A companion joining you on a business trip to elevate your experience between meetings

  • Inviting her to your hometown (or hers, if she’s since moved!)

  • Traveling together to a dream destination like the Northern Lights or the south of France

  • Attending a convention together that reflects your shared interests — I’ve loved FMTY dates to the PAX Unplugged tabletop convention and the Sitges Film Festival near Barcelona!

And don’t worry — FMTY dates don’t have to be fancy! While I adore luxurious beach houses and European getaways, some of my most cherished dates have included camping together, eating ice cream in small-town soda fountains, or watching anime with Steak ’n Shake on the couch.

Is there a minimum or maximum FMTY length?

It varies by provider and destination. Some companions require a minimum length based on how far they’ll need to travel (e.g., 8+ hours for a coast-to-coast booking), while others may be more flexible! Check her website and policies.

As a rule of thumb:

  • Nearby (within 4 hours): A dinner date is a good starting point! (Though if you understand you’ll still be paying the same as you would spending the minimum time listed with her, most are happy to come if you’re only able to spend a couple hours together)

  • Longer distance: Aim for at least an overnight

Maximums depend on your relationship and the provider’s availability — longer dates are often ideal if you’re looking to build something more regular.

Can I book a FMTY as my first date?

Absolutely — though policies vary. I’m always happy to fly out for a first meeting. In fact, several of my FMTY dates have been with gents I hadn’t met before, I am the bucket-list blonde, after all 😊

If you're a little nervous, starting with an overnight or 24-hour date can be a perfect introduction before planning something longer.

How much does it cost — and what’s a custom rate?

It depends on the provider.

Many companions (myself included) offer flat-rate packages for FMTY based on location. This simplifies planning and includes everything — her time, travel, and incidentals.

Others use custom pricing, which may factor in:

  • Time of year

  • How far in advance you’re booking

  • Destination and duration

  • Travel logistics and calendar reshuffling

  • Activities planned or experiences requested

Booking well in advance can help reduce your quote if it’s custom — flexibility is rewarded!

How to estimate your FMTY cost (if no flat rates are listed):

  1. First, check her site to see if she has specific FMTY rates listed on her rate, travel or FAQ pages!

  2. Multiply the listed rate by your desired timeframe (e.g., 24-hour rate × 3 for a 3-day date)

  3. Add business- or first-class airfare from her location to yours (if required or preferred — many companions, including myself, require this for comfort and health reasons like chronic pain)

  4. Add a buffer for incidentals like:

    • Hotel nights pre- or post-date

    • Airport transfers

    • Meals, snacks, or comfort needs

    • Lost income while she travels

This won’t be exact — some companions may quote lower or higher — but it’s a great starting point.

Why are FMTY dates more expensive?

Good question — and it’s about more than airfare. FMTY bookings often require the companion to block out 4+ days: one or two for travel and recovery, and two for the date itself.

You’re also compensating her for:

  • Time away from home or other bookings

  • Travel upgrades for comfort

  • The experience of planning and traveling with you

The result? You get the very best version of your dream companion.

What’s included in the rate?

Rates typically include:

  • Companion’s time

  • Flights

  • Hotel (if not hosted by you)

Other costs (activities, meals, entertainment) are usually extra unless otherwise arranged.

I’m busy and don’t want to plan everything — can you handle it?

Ask your companion! Personally, I love planning and customizing experiences. Just reach out via my booking form with as much detail as possible, and I’ll suggest an itinerary tailored to your interests, the season, and the length of your date.

Need hotel or restaurant recs? I can send those too — or take care of it all if you prefer.

How much is the deposit?

Expect a higher deposit than local dates. Most companions request 30–75% up front; I personally require 50%.

What’s the difference between FMTY and sponsoring a tour?

Some companions offer sponsored tours — you commit to a minimum booking and deposit, and they plan a tour around that city to see other clients. It’s different from a private FMTY, where the trip is exclusively for you. (Most of us that have flat-rate FMTY offer a combo of both, a lower rate where we may or may not see other clients before or after you, with an optional ‘exclusivity fee’ if you prefer).

How do I reach out for a FMTY?

Review the provider’s site carefully

  • Be realistic about costs (see formula above)

  • When ready, fill out the booking form with:

    • Dates

    • Duration

    • Destination

    • Budget, if it’s not flat-rate (optional, but appreciated!)

This helps the provider plan and respond accurately.

Who books flights and hotels?

Usually the companion books their travel once the deposit is received — it’s simpler and more discreet. If you’re hosting, you can book the hotel — but I’m happy to handle it all if that’s easier for you.

Will we sleep in the same room?

If we’re sharing, I recommend a room with an oversized bed. But if you snore or sleep restlessly, it’s wise (and considerate!) to offer a second bedroom so your companion stays rested and radiant.

How far in advance can and should I book?

As early as possible — especially around peak seasons and holidays. Early bookings often mean better availability and better rates.

🛫 Step-by-Step Guide to Booking a FMTY Date

  1. Read your companion’s site thoroughly — rates, FAQs, and T&Cs

  2. Estimate costs (or see if flat rates are listed)

  3. Submit the booking form with full details: dates, destination, duration, and preferences

  4. Confirm deposit requirements and settle travel logistics

  5. Pack your bags and get ready for a magical adventure
